Luteolin-7-O-D-glucopyranoside is a natural compound that has been shown to have hypoglycemic properties. It is a glucoside of the flavonoid luteolin and has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the activities of enzymes such as α-amylase, lipase, and phospholipase A2. Luteolin-7-O-D-glucopyranoside also prevents oxidative injury caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cells. In addition, it has been shown to be effective against infectious diseases, such as leishmaniasis and tuberculosis. It is believed that luteolin-7-O-D-glucopyranoside may work by acting as a proapoptotic protein. This compound binds to the mitochondria membrane and causes increased permeability of the mitochondrial membrane for cytochrome c, leading to apoptosis.
