Description:Laninamivir is an antiviral drug that inhibits the neuraminidase activity of influenza A and B viruses. It is a prodrug that is activated by esterases to form the active metabolite laninamivir carboxylate, which inhibits virus replication. Laninamivir has been shown to be effective against oseltamivir-resistant mutants and has been used in combination with oseltamivir as a treatment for pandemic influenza. Laninamivir has also been studied in pediatric patients with influenza-like symptoms, with significant reductions in symptom severity, duration of symptoms, and viral load.
