2-Methacryloxyethyl D-glucopyranoside is a synthetic polymer that has been shown to inhibit the activation of coagulation by inhibiting the activity of clotting factors. It has been used in clinical studies as an anticoagulant, and has been shown to be effective in animal models of radiation injury and for treating clots in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting surgery. 2-Methacryloxyethyl D-glucopyranoside inhibits the formation of fibrin by binding to fibrinogen molecules. The polymer is activated by a cross-linking agent such as dextran sulfate or glutaraldehyde, which causes it to bind more tightly to fibrinogen and form an insoluble network that prevents blood from clotting. This agent is also a bioconjugate chemistry, which means it can be used with other substances such as growth factors or monoclonal antibodies for research purposes
