Mycophenolic acid acyl-b-D-glucuronide is a prodrug of mycophenolic acid that is metabolized by esterases to its active form. This compound has been shown to inhibit the activity of drug receptors, including those for immunosuppressants and anticonvulsants. Mycophenolic acid acyl-b-D-glucuronide has also been found to have a matrix effect on the concentration-time curve of other drugs in human serum. This drug is used for the treatment of bowel disease, autoimmune diseases, and for the prevention of organ transplant rejection. It can be administered orally or intravenously and has been shown to be well tolerated with few adverse effects.
