Malvidin-3-galactoside chloride is a substrate molecule for the enzyme lysyl oxidase. It is also an intermediate in the synthesis of the anthocyanin pigment and has been shown to be involved in transcriptional regulation, diacylglycerol biosynthesis, fatty acid biosynthesis, and photosynthetic activity. Malvidin-3-galactoside chloride is used to study the molecular basis of tissue culture through its use as a substrate molecule for sephadex g-100 and dry weight. Malvidin-3-galactoside chloride has also been shown to have antiplatelet properties in vitro, which may be due to its ability to inhibit platelet aggregation by inhibiting thromboxane production.
