Neomangiferin is a natural compound found in the rhizomes of Mangifera indica and other plants. This extract has been shown to possess cytotoxic activity against cancer cells and low-dose neomangiferin significantly reduced the number of bowel disease-associated bacteria. Neomangiferin also has high binding affinity for toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) with an IC50 of 0.06 mM, which is a protein that plays a role in the inflammatory response. Analysis of neomangiferin by HPLC revealed that it consists of two components, timosaponin and neomangiferin. The extraction process can be optimized to produce higher yields of these compounds.
