Phenyl 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-a-D-thiomannopyranoside is an analog of a sugar molecule. This compound can be synthesized by the metathesis reaction between phenyl 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-α-(2′→3′)-D-thiomannopyranoside and bis(trimethylsilyl) sulfate in the presence of polyphosphoric acid and potassium sulfate. The yield of this synthesis is high and can be increased with the addition of potassium sulfonate as a cofactor.
