E-Retinoyl b-glucuronide (ETBG) is a fluorescent derivative of retinoic acid that is used in the detection of chlorogenic acids in human serum. ETBG binds to the Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) on human neutrophils, leading to increased cytokine production and chemotaxis. ETBG has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and may be useful as an adjuvant for nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It has also been shown to inhibit ovarian activity and to have antimicrobial activity against hl-60 cells.
