Raltegravir is an HIV protease inhibitor that belongs to the class of glycosylated polymers. This compound is synthesized by a click modification of d-glucose with a methyl group and then fluorinated. The sugar moiety is attached to the backbone through a glycosyl linkage, which results in the formation of a complex carbohydrate. Raltegravir b-D-glucuronide methyl ester is soluble in water, alcohols, and organic solvents. It has been shown to be active against HIV type 1 strains resistant to other drugs.
