It is a synthetic modification of the sugar glucose and has been used as a building block for the synthesis of glycosides and oligosaccharides. 1,2,3-Tri-O-benzyl-4,6-O-benzylideneb -D -glucopyranoside can be used in methylation reactions to produce saccharides with methyl groups at positions that are not normally present.
