Mangiferin is a natural compound that is found in the leaves of mango trees. It has been shown to inhibit the protein kinase Akt/mTOR pathway, which is involved in cell growth and survival. Mangiferin also has antitumor activity against liver cancer cells. This compound may be used as an antiviral agent against chronic diseases, such as HIV or hepatitis C virus. Mangiferin also inhibits the expression of proteins involved in fat metabolism and human lung fibroblasts proliferation. This may be due to its ability to react with thiol groups and form disulfide bonds.
