Description:2,3,4,6-Tetra-O-acetyl-1,5-anhydro-D-mannitol is a high yield precursor for the production of the drug 2,3,4,6-tetraacetoxybenzoin. The anomers are selectively formed by reacting with chlorides and iodides at elevated temperatures. The reaction yields the diastereomeric mixture of tetraacetoxybenzoin in a ratio of about 1:2.
