1,2,3,5-Tetra-O-acetyl-D-ribofuranose is a dietary supplement that can be found in the form of palladium complexes. It has also been shown to inhibit the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines by cleaving the 6th carbon from ribose. 1,2,3,5-Tetra-O-acetyl-D-ribofuranose is synthesized by chlorination of 2,6-, 3-, 5-, or 7-(chloropurinomethyl)pyridine with mercuric chloride or nitrosyl chloride.
