1-[(E)-2-Phenylvinyl]imidazolidine-2,4-dione is a research tool that is used to study the activation of ion channels and receptors. This ligand binds to the receptor, which then activates ion channels that are located in the membrane of cells. The activation of these ion channels leads to an influx of calcium ions into the cell and an increase in intracellular levels of cyclic AMP (cAMP). 1-[(E)-2-Phenylvinyl]imidazolidine-2,4-dione is also used as an inhibitor to block protein interactions. It has been shown to inhibit the binding of peptides to antibodies.
