DL-Xylose is found in plants, animals, and bacteria. The gene sequence analysis of the type strain of DL-xylose showed that it has a fatty acid composition of 0.5% and protocatechuic acid composition of 0.7%. Dry weight analysis on swiss-webster mice fed with DL-xylose as the only carbon source showed that this sugar can provide up to 30% of energy requirements for these mice.
