3'-Amino-2',3'-dideoxyguanosine (3'-ADG) is a nucleoside that can be quantified in plasma, urine, and cerebrospinal fluid. It is used to diagnose adenosine deaminase deficiency. 3'-ADG is found in both the extracellular and intracellular fluids of humans and other animals. The concentration of 3'-ADG in the extracellular fluid depends on the rate at which it is taken up by cells, whereas the intracellular concentration reflects synthesis and release by cells. The diagnosis of adenosine deaminase deficiency can be reliably determined with 3'-ADG measurements because it has been shown to be elevated in patients with this condition.
