2-Amino-2'-deoxyadenosine (2-AADA) is a nucleoside that is produced by the enzyme uridine phosphorylase from uracil. 2-AADA inhibits viral and cellular DNA synthesis by forming hydrogen bonds with the ribose moiety in dna. It has been shown to inhibit leukemia cells in culture, while also inducing apoptosis in human T-lymphocytes. Inhibition of viral replication has been achieved by conjugating 2-AADA to phosphorothioate oligodeoxynucleotides and incorporating it into a liposomal formulation. The incorporation of 2-AADA into phosphorothioate oligodeoxynucleotide conjugates may be due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds with the ribose moiety in dna. 2-AADA is also a useful tool for molecular modelling studies, as it can be used to study the effect of hydrogen bonding on single stranded d
