It is an activator of ribonucleotide reductase, which converts ribonucleotides to deoxyribonucleotides. 2-Amino-6-chloro-9-(2'-deoxy-b-D-ribofuranosyl)purine has been shown to be effective against human leukemia cells in vitro and in vivo.
