1-(β-D-arabinofuranosyl)cytosine 5'-monophosphate (AraCMP) is a nucleoside analog that inhibits DNA polymerase. It has been shown to be more potent than other analogs in a human serum model system, and synergistic with the matrix effect in cells. AraCMP also inhibits DNA synthesis by binding to the template strand of DNA and preventing it from being copied into RNA. In vivo models have shown that this drug can cause cell lysis and polymerase chain reactions (PCRs). Titration calorimetry data has revealed that AraCMP binds to the enzyme at a site near the active site where ATP hydrolysis occurs.
