Description:1-(b-D-arabinofuranosyl)-N4-methylcytosine is a nucleoside analog that inhibits DNA synthesis in rapidly dividing cells. It is a modified form of cytosine, with an extra methyl group attached to the 4th carbon atom in the pyrimidine ring. 1-(b-D-arabinofuranosyl)-N4-methylcytosine has antiviral properties and is synthesized by reacting 2,4,5-triphosphate with arabinose and methyl iodide to give 1-(b-D-arabinofuranosyl)-N4-methylcytosine monophosphate. This compound was first reported in 1970 as part of a research program on anticancer agents.
