3-Acetylpyridine adenine dinucleotide, reduced form, sodium salt is a nucleoside that is used as an antiviral medication. It is also used to synthesize ribonucleosides and deoxyribonucleosides for use in anticancer drugs. 3-Acetylpyridine adenine dinucleotide, reduced form, sodium salt inhibits viral DNA synthesis by inhibiting the enzyme RNA polymerase. This drug has been shown to be effective against HIV-1 and other retroviruses. 3-Acetylpyridine adenine dinucleotide, reduced form, sodium salt is not active against all viruses because it lacks activity against DNA viruses such as herpes simplex virus or hepatitis B virus.
