This leads to the production of a hydrogen cation and an electrophilic imine. 5-Phenylpyrazolidin-3-one is used in chemosensors for the detection of various chemicals, including formaldehyde and acetaldehyde. 5-Phenylpyrazolidin-3-one also has antitumor activity due to its ability to inhibit DNA synthesis and induce apoptosis in cancer cells.
