Sodium orthosilicate is a chemical compound used as a cross-linking agent in detergent compositions. It is produced by the reaction of sodium carbonate and orthosilicic acid. Sodium orthosilicate reacts with water vapor to form silica gel, which precipitates out of solution. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique has been used to study the activation energies for this reaction. Growth factor molecules can be incorporated into sodium orthosilicate to increase its efficacy as a cross-linking agent.
