Product Information
Name:Potassium hexacyanochromate(III)
Controlled Product
Brand:Biosynth
Description:Potassium hexacyanochromate(III) is an inorganic compound with chemical formula K[Cr(CN)6]. It is a strong oxidizing agent and has been used for the analysis of aromatic residues in plasma mass spectrometry. The compound can be synthesized from potassium dichromate, hydrogen peroxide and hydrocyanic acid. Activation energies for proton transfer reactions were determined using particle and activation energy measurements. In addition, the crystal structure of potassium hexacyanochromate was studied by X-ray diffraction. The compound is a strong reductant that reacts with maleic acid to give the corresponding maleate (R-COOH + H+ → R-COO- + H2O). Potassium hexacyanochromate has been investigated as a possible catalyst for organic synthesis and as a component in infrared lasers. It also has been used to produce fluorescent proteins and to study protein folding.
