Lauryl Laurate is a fatty acid that is used as an emulsifier in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Lauryl Laurate is a colorless liquid with the chemical formula CH3(CH2)14COOCH(CH2)11OH. It is soluble in alcohol, ether, chloroform, and acetone. Lauryl Laurate has been shown to be effective against inflammatory diseases such as arthritis and asthma. This compound may be synthesized through the reaction of copper chromite with benzalkonium chloride in hydrochloric acid. The synthesis of lauryl laurate can also be accomplished by reacting oleic acid with chlorine gas in the presence of solutes (e.g., sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide). The yield of this reaction can be increased by adding copper oxide to the reaction mixture. The final step involves neutralizing the solution with NaOH or KOH to give lauryl laurate as a white
