Description:5-Bromocytidine is a pyrimidine nucleoside that has been shown to inhibit the replication of influenza virus in cell culture. It stabilizes the ribonucleotide reductase enzyme, which is responsible for converting ribonucleosides to deoxyribonucleosides. This inhibition prevents the production of viral RNA and protein synthesis, leading to inhibition of viral growth. 5-Bromocytidine has also been shown to have antiviral effects against HIV and herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1) in cell cultures.
