It is synthesized by the reaction of 2'-O-tert-butyldimethylsilyl-5'-O-DMT (2,6-dimethoxytrityl) with 3 methyluridine. The compound has been shown to be an activator for DNA polymerase, ribonucleases and deoxyribonucleases in vitro. It also inhibits tumor cell proliferation and induces apoptosis in cultured cells.
