N4-Benzoyl-2'-O-propargyladenosine (BAP) is an antiviral monophosphate nucleoside that inhibits the synthesis of DNA. It is a novel, synthetic, and high quality nucleoside with antiviral activity. BAP has been shown to inhibit the replication of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1), human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV2). This drug also has anticancer activity as it inhibits the production of cancer cells in vitro. As a phosphoramidite, BAP can be used for the synthesis of DNA.
