It has been shown to be effective against HIV and HSV. N-Benzoyl-2'-O-[(methylthio)methyl]-3',5'-O-[1,1,3,3-tetrakis(1-methylethyl)-1,3-disiloxanediyl]-cytidine prevents the synthesis of DNA by inhibiting the enzyme ribonucleotide reductase. It also inhibits the production of deoxyribonucleotides and DNA by binding to the active site of the enzyme DNA polymerase.
