1-Hexadecanesulfonyl chloride is a fatty acid that is found in urine, where it is the product of bacterial degradation of hexadecanoic acid. This compound has been shown to be a potent antagonist for growth factor receptors. 1-Hexadecanesulfonyl chloride also has potent anti-inflammatory and autoimmune effects. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in vitro and to have an effect on collagen synthesis. The mechanism of action for these effects is not fully understood but may be due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds with proteins or its hydrolysis by hydrochloric acid, which leads to the release of sulfate ions.
