It inhibits the synthesis of adenosine, which is involved in the regulation of energy metabolism and cellular proliferation. It also has been shown to have cardioprotective effects in animal studies. 2-Chloro-N6-cyclopentyladenosine hemihydrate may be used as an adjunct therapy for myocardial infarctions, as well as for other conditions such as diabetes mellitus and Parkinson's disease.
