Asperphenamate is an acetate extract that was obtained from the type strain of Aspergillus. It has potent inhibitory activity against cancer cells and is a promising drug for the treatment of cancer. The chemical study of Asperphenamate revealed that it contains two hydroxyl groups, which are responsible for its potent inhibitory activity. This compound also induces autophagy in human melanoma cells and other cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to activate the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR).
