It can be found in the human liver, as well as in various microbial species. 12α-Hydroxygrandiflorenic acid has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the growth of proliferatum, which may be due to its ability to inhibit cell division and DNA synthesis. 12α-Hydroxygrandiflorenic acid has been identified as a potential drug for treatment of cancer and other diseases. The chemical structures of this compound are similar to those of other compounds found in plants with known allelopathic activity. This compound also exhibits antimicrobial activities against Escherichia coli K12, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus, which may be due to its inhibition of the microbial enzyme ribonucleotide reductase.
