2',3'-Dideoxy-3'-fluorouridine (ddFU) is a nucleoside analog that inhibits the human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1). It is transported into cells and inhibits HIV-1 replication by inhibiting the reverse transcriptase enzyme. This agent has been shown to be effective against HIV-1 in vivo, with an inhibitory dose of 1 mg/kg and an effective dose of 2.5 mg/kg. ddFU also has a significant inhibitory effect on human mitochondrial DNA polymerase γ and can be used for the treatment of hepatitis B and C.
