Description:

4,6-Dichloro-5-methoxypyrimidine is a reactive intermediate in the synthesis of sulfadoxine. It is a chlorinating agent that reacts with alkanes and alkenes to produce halogenated products. 4,6-Dichloro-5-methoxypyrimidine can be used as a reagent to synthesize malonic acid and formamide. This compound has been used as an isotopic label for studies of the efficiency of the reaction between malonic acid and formamide. The chloride ions are used in this study to monitor the reaction rate. 4,6-Dichloro-5-methoxypyrimidine is also an intermediate in the synthesis of sulfanilamide and aminophenol.
