It also inhibits the replication of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1) and can be used for the treatment of HSV1 encephalitis. O6-Diphenylcarbonylguanine has also been shown to be effective in the treatment of cancer cells that are resistant to chemotherapy drugs such as cisplatin and doxorubicin.
