2'-Deoxy-5-iodo-3',5'-di-O-p-toluoyluridine is a nucleoside that has antiviral and anticancer effects. It can be used as an activator for phosphoramidites and as a precursor for the synthesis of other nucleosides. 2'-Deoxy-5-iodo-3',5'-di-O-p-toluoyluridine is synthesized from 2,4,6-triisopropylbenzenesulfonyl chloride and 5-(N,N-dimethylamino)valeronitrile in the presence of triethylamine and potassium carbonate in acetonitrile with subsequent purification by silica gel chromatography.
