It is also an inhibitor binding to the enzyme RNA polymerase II, which may contribute to its anti-cancer effects. 2'-Deoxy-5-fluorouridine 5'-monophosphate sodium salt has been shown to inhibit the growth of human tumor cells in culture and in animal models.
