This compound can be used as a building block for DNA synthesis by incorporating into a growing chain, or as an activator for DNA polymerases. 3',5'-Diamino-3',5'-dideoxy-5'-Fmoc-thymidine hydrochloride has been shown to induce apoptosis, or programmed cell death, in cancer cells.
