Fluoro-2'-deoxy-2'-fluoroadenosine (FDA) is a synthetic analogue of adenosine. FDA has minimal inhibitory concentration against Trichomonas vaginalis, which is an opportunistic protozoan parasite that can cause vaginitis and urethritis in humans. FDA has been shown to have cytotoxic activity against cancer cells in vitro and in vivo, as well as the ability to disrupt DNA. It also has a long-term safety profile with no toxicity in human studies or tissue samples. FDA has shown a good safety profile in animal studies and is non-mutagenic. FDA binds to human antibodies and hydrogen bonds with them, disrupting the immune system response to foreign agents by interfering with antibody function. The drug also inhibits the growth rate of cancer cells.
