Description:

4-n-Octyloxybenzonitrile is a dipole, light emitting molecule that belongs to the oxadiazole family. It has been shown to be a macroscopic light emitting molecule with liquid crystal properties. The emission bands of 4-n-octyloxybenzonitrile are in the visible region and can be classified as red or green. The compound also has the ability to form gels at low concentrations and stabilize them at high concentrations. The fluorescence intensity of 4-n-octyloxybenzonitrile is proportional to the concentration of chromobacterium violaceum, which is a gram-negative bacterium that causes infections in humans. 4-n-Octyloxybenzonitrile can also inhibit the growth of gram negative bacteria by binding to imidazoline receptors on their surface, preventing them from forming biofilms and stabilizing them when they do form biofilms.
