The BMS-3 is a mesoporous silica nanoparticle that has been synthesized in the laboratory. The mesoporosity of this material is useful for molecular recognition and for the adsorption of large molecules such as proteins. The cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) coating on the surface of the nanoparticles can be used to modify their surface properties, which may be important for applications in drug delivery or catalysis. This material also has a bimodal size distribution with a lamellar morphology, which may be related to its structural properties. The probe molecule is inserted into the mesopores by a cycle of sequences that are repeated over time.
