Description:

Nesfatin-1 is a peptide hormone that is synthesized in the brain, pancreas, and gut. It can be found in human plasma and cerebrospinal fluid. Nesfatin-1 has been shown to decrease food intake through its effects on the hypothalamus. This peptide hormone also stimulates insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the release of glucagon. Nesfatin-1 has been shown to have a strong effect on glucose homeostasis and may be used as an adjunct therapy for diabetes mellitus type 2 patients who are resistant to metformin treatment.
