It is a synthetic nucleoside analogue with antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type 1, herpes simplex virus type 2, varicella zoster virus, cytomegalovirus, Epstein Barr virus, and human immunodeficiency virus type 1. This compound is also used as a building block in the preparation of phosphoramidites for chemical synthesis of deoxyribonucleosides. 2-Fluoro-9-(2'-deoxy-2'-fluoro-b-D-arabinofuranosyl)adenine has shown anticancer activity in vitro and can be used to treat various types of cancer.
