Anemarrhenasaponin III is a saponin from the rhizomes of Anemarrhena asphodeloides. It can be used to treat thrombocytopenia and inhibit platelet aggregation. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on platelets by inhibiting adenosine diphosphate (ADP) release, which is essential for platelet aggregation. The structure of anemarrhenasaponin III consists of a steroidal aglycone and a saponin attached to it at C-3, C-5, and C-7 positions. This saponin also contains two hydroxyl groups that are necessary for its antiplatelet activity. There are no other reported pharmacological activities for this compound other than its antiplatelet effects.
