Triptoquinonide is a synthetic tripterygium with anti-inflammatory properties. It is an enantiomer of triptoquinone, which has been used as a starting material for the synthesis of several drugs. Triptoquinonide binds to hematopoietic cells and induces lymphocyte activation. Triptoquinonide is also used in the treatment of cancer, inflammatory diseases, and hypervalent states. The synthesis of this drug was achieved by palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions with butanol and dehydroabietic acid. This synthesis method is based on the bioproduction of these two reactants from renewable resources like corn, soybeans, or sugar cane.
