5-(N-Isopentenyl-N-trifluoroacetyl)aminomethyluridine is a nucleoside analog that is structurally related to cytidine. It was first synthesized in the 1970s, and has been shown to possess antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type 1. In addition, it has been shown to inhibit DNA synthesis and the formation of DNA double strands. 5-(N-Isopentenyl-N-trifluoroacetyl)aminomethyluridine is an activator of protein kinase C and cyclic AMP phosphodiesterase, as well as a DNA polymerase inhibitor with anticancer properties.
