Inosine 2',3'-cyclic monophosphate sodium salt (ICMP) is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor that inhibits the activity of protein kinases and phosphatases. ICMP is used in biochemical studies to inhibit tryptophan metabolism and protein synthesis. It also has been shown to be useful in the study of sequences, such as those found in DNA and RNA. ICMP has been shown to increase the mRNA levels of a number of proteins at lower concentrations than other inhibitors, making it a valuable tool for studying protein synthesis. The enzyme-inhibiting properties of ICMP have been observed in calf thymus DNA and bacterial DNA gyrase, dna topoisomerase, and rna synthesis. ICMP also inhibits caenorhabditis elegans phosphatases and can be used in genetic engineering experiments involving Xenopus oocytes.
