Isocytidine is a hydrogen bond analog that has been shown to have good pharmacological activity. It is a nucleoside base and the most stable of the analogs with all four hydrogen bonds intact. Isocytidine has been shown to stimulate growth in cell cultures of dry weight, hybridization, and uridine. Isocytidine also binds to messenger RNA (mRNA) and inhibits protein synthesis by interfering with the binding of aminoacyl-transfer ribonucleic acid (tRNA) to mRNA. This leads to a decrease in the amount of protein produced by the cell. Isocytidine also prevents cellular proliferation through its inhibition of fatty acid synthesis.
