(6R)-6-(Hydroxymethyl)piperidin-2-one is an organic compound that is used as a chiral auxiliary in the asymmetric synthesis of enantiomerically pure compounds. It can be used to produce racemic mixtures of molecules with high enantiomeric excess, which are then separated by chromatography or crystallization. The (6R)-6-(hydroxymethyl)piperidin-2-one is obtained from the reaction between ethyl acetate and 2-aminoethanol. It has been shown to be trackable and its enantiomers can be identified by NMR spectroscopy.
